Still in corporate. Building my exit in real time. — Maryam

Meet Your Lifestyle Architect

Hi. I'm Maryam.

I spent 30 years in corporate doing everything right. The degrees. The certifications. The late nights. And I still watched the ceiling stop me.

Then I had twin boys at 44. And suddenly time became the most expensive thing I owned. I realized I was spending the hours that belonged to my family — on a system that was never fully built for me.

So I stopped waiting for permission and started building my exit. In real time. While still on payroll.

The Exit Blueprint is everything I wish someone had handed me.

Questions & Answers

Everything You Need to Know

The questions Black women over 50 ask most about leaving corporate and building what comes next.

How do I leave corporate America without losing my income? +

This is the most important question and the honest answer is that you should not leave before you are ready financially. The Exit Blueprint is built on one core principle. Build before you bail.

That means starting your exit plan while you are still on payroll. Not when you are desperate. Not when they push you out. Now. While the paycheck is still coming in and you still have time to be intentional.

Here is what building before you bail looks like. First you get clear on your number. Second you start building income streams alongside your salary. Third you set a real timeline with milestones, not a vague someday.

The Exit Blueprint 1:1 session walks you through all of this. We map your financial picture, your assets, and your next income streams together so you leave on your terms not in a panic.

What can I do after corporate America at 50? +

So much more than corporate ever told you was possible.

Black women over 50 are launching coaching practices, consulting businesses, product brands, content platforms, interior design firms, wellness businesses, real estate ventures, and more. The list is as long as your imagination and your asset list.

The key is doing the asset excavation first. Figuring out exactly what you are carrying and how to run it for yourself. That is exactly what we do in a 1:1 Exit Strategy Session.

How do Black women transition out of corporate? +

The most successful transitions have one thing in common. They were planned. Not reactive. Not forced. Planned.

The Exit Blueprint framework: Foundation, Asset Excavation, Vision Mapping, Blueprint Building, and Exit. The journal starts you on the path and the 1:1 session accelerates it.

You do not have to figure it all out before you start. You just have to start.

How do I start a business while still working full time? +

In the margins. Early mornings before the emails start. Lunch breaks. Saturday mornings. Sunday evenings that used to be lost to dread.

I am doing exactly this right now. 30 years in IT, still employed full time, raising twin six year old boys, and building The Exit Blueprint in every available margin of my day.

You do not need hours. You need consistency. Thirty minutes a day of focused work on your business moves faster than you think.

What skills can I take from corporate to entrepreneurship? +

All of them. Every single one.

Project management becomes running your business. Stakeholder communication becomes client relationships. Budget oversight becomes financial management. Team leadership becomes managing contractors.

The difference is that outside of corporate those skills generate returns for you instead of for a shareholder. I call this Asset Excavation and it is the first thing we do in every 1:1 session.

How do I deal with burnout in corporate as a Black woman? +

First I want to say this clearly. What you are experiencing is real. It is not weakness. 40% of Black women leaders report burnout at nearly double the rate of white women. We absorb more, receive less support, and are rarely asked if we are okay.

Rest is not the reward at the end. Rest is how you build the runway to your exit. Give yourself permission to rest now.

One of the most powerful things that helped me was knowing I was building something for myself. Having a plan changes how you sit in every difficult meeting. You are not stuck. You are building.

How do I financially prepare to leave corporate? +

Know your number. Calculate exactly what your life costs per month outside of corporate. Include health insurance which is often the biggest surprise.

Build your runway. I recommend 12 to 18 months of living expenses saved before leaving.

Start building income before you leave. Even small amounts from a side business reduce the pressure on your savings and prove the concept works. In a 1:1 session we build this financial picture together.

How do I find my purpose after corporate? +

This is the question underneath all the other questions. For so many Black women who gave everything to their careers the job became the identity. And when that title is gone there is a real moment of who am I now.

Purpose is not something you find. It is something you excavate. The Exit Blueprint Journal has a full section on this with prompts designed to help you reconnect with who you were before corporate shaped you.

You are not your title. You never were.

What businesses can Black women over 50 start? +

The businesses that work best are almost always built directly on what you already know and who you already are. Coaching, consulting, content and personal brand businesses, product businesses, service businesses, real estate.

The common thread is that they are built on what you already know and care about. Not on chasing a trend. In a 1:1 Exit Strategy Session we figure out which aligns with your specific assets, skills, and vision.

How do I plan my corporate exit? +

The exit is not a moment. It is a plan. And the plan starts before you are ready.

Start with your foundation. Do your asset excavation. Map your vision with specific details. Build your blueprint with a real timeline. Set your exit date or milestone. Execute while still on payroll.

The Exit Blueprint Journal walks you through every one of these steps. And the 1:1 Exit Strategy Session builds your full plan with someone in your corner. You are not stuck. You are just unanchored. And your blueprint is waiting.
